Marc’s Painting Table: Models I’ve Finished in January

While normally I would title this thread under whichever Faction I had done most of the painting for, this month saw me switching back and forth between both Menoth and Cygnar. So rather than confuse people, I figured I’d just do a “Finished This Month” thread and throw everything in here!

First, I finally (FINALLY) finished my unit of Rangers!

This unit of noble Cygnarians has been sitting at 95% for far, far too long. So now they’re based, arc’d, and sealed.

Next, I finished and sealed my Harbinger of Menoth:

Podcast 007 – Retribution vs Cygnar, Garryth vs Kara Sloan

After a long (LONG long) hiatus, we’re finally back! With apologies for the delay (due to power outages, a massive bout of flu which floored 1/3rd of our hosts, and invasions of family!), we’re proud to offer a new battle report!
BR007-16-Cygnar Turn 2

In a small  break from tradition, I threw this podcast up BEFORE I finished writing the battle report itself (gasp of indignation!). But now I’ve gone through and finished the write-up, so if you didn’t see it before, you would never know it wasn’t a complete Battle Report at the time! Ah, temporal mechanics… anyway! Listen, read, enjoy!

This week’s battle report saw my noble forces of Cygnar against the fanatical forces of Nick’s Retribution. Nick is still trying to come to grips with Garryth, and I wanted a nice, fun game that I wouldn’t beat myself up too much if I lost, so I went with one of my favourite warcasters, the beautiful Kara Sloan. I love her, but I knew that she’s not a great match-up against a lot of Retribution… but that awesome rifle of hers can get work done, so I was happy to throw her on the table!

Paintectorate of Menoth – Harbinger Part 2

So my efforts to finish the Harbinger with her slightly modified attendants continues!

It’s getting a little hard to see the differences at this point… basically I finished painting the Habinger aside from a few gems in her armour and weapon, and if I decide to do a really funky colour for her hair. Otherwise… she may be done! Maybe.

Kingdom of Paintnar – Boomhowler & Co

It occurs to me that Nick and I post enough painting stuff that we should probably change the name of the website to “Combo Smite Painting Stuff… and Very Occasionally Battle Reports”! Oh well.

As I mentioned before, my Stormwall is rapidly approaching completion (I still need to finish the Lightning Pods, but other than that, it’s done). My plan was that after I finish that particular monstrosity, I would take the time to finish all 20-30 models I have that aren’t QUITE done yet (85-95% done), including their bases and front arcs, and then seal everything I have once and for all.

That was the PLAN… then Nick mentioned that he wanted his purple paint back, and suddenly I had to finish painting my Boomhowlers (who I wanted to have bright-ish purple skin to contrast with all the blue I’ve already got in my army)… and since I was priming THOSE guys, well, I had probably better assemble a few others so I’m not wasting space and primer… and suddenly… well…

Battle 002 – Winter Festival Battle Report!

NPR002 - turn0_Marc_(1of6)

I thought it might be kinda fun to play a Winter-Festival-Holiday-Themed game of WarMachine as December is in full roar… but since I only had this thought last week, and since making cool terrain takes time and money… I decided to go for the cheesey, tongue-in-cheek look instead! White tissue paper for snow, some holiday-houses (wrong scale, but close!), a few holiday trees, a random piece of fence (also wrong scale!), and a train-track to nowhere…

Plus, of course, a rampaging horde of murderous elves rebelling against the fat human mage in red! I just wish I was playing Khador and had time to glue a small white beard onto the Butcher… 🙂

Kingdom of Paintnar – Stormwall Base Part 2

So work continues on my Stormwall base! It’s almost finished… here we can see the river after I have peeled away the restraining wall that was keeping the water effects from flowing out all over my table (although I admit it did NOT do a great job at that… the wall sprung 3 leaks over the course of me trying to make this base!)

IMAG1016 (1)

The white you see is the clear stuff I used to make a seal between the wall and the river which couldn’t dry too hard due to the wall. Hopefully it will now dry clear (the rivers I made had the same problem, and they eventually DID dry hard and clear).

Battle 001 – Cygnar vs Retribution, pCaine vs Ossyan: Don’t Blink!

So, in the spirit of continuing to bring you, our loyal listeners and fans (all 10 of you!) content that you hopefully will find amusing and awesome and educational, occasionally we’re going to post Non-Podcast Battle Reports (NPR). These will be text-only reports, posted both here and on the Privateer Press Forums, that will give you a chance to read some battles that may not have been as cool as to make it into the podcast itself, but should still entertain and amuse.

SR001-05-Ret Turn 1

For example, this week, I played Kassem and his Retribution forces. I’ve been looking for an excuse to field pCaine, and I had a suspicion that Kassem would *not* be bringing a heavy-Stealth list, but *would* be bringing a metric crap-tonne of infantry, which is just about perfect for Caine and his infantry-mulching Feat.

Kingdom of Paintnar – Stormwall Base

So, now that I’ve finished the paint job for the Stormwall, time to base that badboy. I’ve drybrushed the base, placed rocks, and placed a small magnet in the middle…

IMAG1012

And why did I place a small magnet in the middle of that base? Why, so I can place a Trencher model on the base when I’m not using the Trencher units on the table, of course!

Podcast 004 – Cygnar vs Circle, Haley2 vs Grayle

This week Combo Smite decided to invite one of our noble guest hosts, the Circle-playin’ Gaven, to join us on the show. Gaven decided to bring Grayle to tangle with arguably one of the most powerful warcasters in the game, the mighty Epic Haley! Would his stone-knife-wielding maniac be a good counter to the temporal shenanigans of Cygnar‘s first lady?

BR004-31-Game End

We also spend some time discussing the new Circle heavy warjack kit, the realities of playing against Cryx, and revisit what we’ve got on our painting tables these days.

As always, you can listen to us on iTunes (Link-Link-Link) or right here on Combo Smite!

Since Gaven has, over the last several months, only brought eKruegar and eMorvahna against my Cyngar forces, I figured it was high time to take off the kid gloves: I crafted an eCaine list and an eHaley list, figuring that opportunities to field my most powerful warcasters without feeling guilty or that I’m clubbing baby seals are rare, and should be embraced.
