Painting A.D.D. for You and Me!

So Nick has mentioned in the past that he has a severe case of Painting A.D.D.

I want to set the record straight. Here is a picture of all the models I have between 55-95% done. Many of them just need to be based… basically what I did tonight is mix up a big pot of glue and put sand on all these bases…

I must warn you… the following images may be disturbing to some viewers…

Paintectorate Of Menoth – Vassals of Menoth

Well, I’ve almost finished my most recent additions to my growing Menite army… 2 Vassals of Menoth! I hope to finish them completely tonight, but for now, enjoy the 85% doneness that they are currently…

The attentive amoung you might notice that I’ve also almost finished my Lightning Pods… a few highlights, and those bad-boys are ready to rock and roll! I’m very tempted to write “To Khador With Love” on one, “To Ios With Love” on the 2nd, and “To Cryx With Love” on the third. I may yet do that… it’s rare that more than 1 survives a turn anyway.

Podcast 010 – Legion vs Retribution, Cygnar vs Protectorate, Listen to 1 Get 1 Free!

This week on the podcast we’re doing something different. Instead of facing off against each other Marc and I went down to the local game store in London Ontario, Game Chamber, and decided we would play some randoms. We are each going to give an abbreviated battle report and then rate our performances.

As always, you can listen to the podcast right here or on iTunes! If you’re listening on iTunes and have a minute to toss a quick review on there for us, we’d all be very grateful… we need a certain minimum number of reviews before they’ll show a score for us, and I’ve already asked my entire extended family to review us, so now it’s down to our actual listener(s)!

Marc’s Painting Table: Models I’ve Finished in January

While normally I would title this thread under whichever Faction I had done most of the painting for, this month saw me switching back and forth between both Menoth and Cygnar. So rather than confuse people, I figured I’d just do a “Finished This Month” thread and throw everything in here!

First, I finally (FINALLY) finished my unit of Rangers!

This unit of noble Cygnarians has been sitting at 95% for far, far too long. So now they’re based, arc’d, and sealed.

Next, I finished and sealed my Harbinger of Menoth:

Paintectorate of Menoth

So I attempted to unleash some of my new Protectorate models on our Cryx player on Wednesday… my only condition is that he couldn’t play Gaspy2 against me (since I have no screening infantry, Gaspy2’s Feat is basically a hard-counter and instant game winner against my current Menoth army). Adam wasn’t having any of that, so I didn’t end up being able to play my Menoth. 😦

But! On the flip side, now I can show everyone else what I’ve been working on!

IMAG1056

Here we see a group shot of much of my Menoth: 2 Reckoners (in the back), 2 magnetized warjack kits currently outfitted as Vanquishers, 2 Vassals of Menoth, Vilmon, a Hierophant, the Covenant, and 3 Wracks.

Paintectorate of Menoth – Wracked!

So now that I have finished my Harbinger (so… pretty…), it’s time to buckle down and get the 55 points of Menoth I need to get her on the table painted!

I’ve got a butt-tonne of warjacks that are primed or being stripped at the moment (3 fully magnetized heavy kits, 3-4 Crusaders, 2 Reckoners, 2-3 Revengers, a Devout, 2 Vanquishers), and a considerable number of support models and solos (Choir, Covenant, Vilmon, Allegiant of the Fist, Hierophant, Gravus, etc…), but no infantry. Well, not “no” infantry… I have 2 units of Knight Exemplars, 2 units of Cinerators, and a minimum unit of Deliverers… but nothing I actually want to field at the moment. No Errants, no Bastions, no Zealots, and no Flameguard.

Paintectorate of Menoth – Harbinger Part 2

So my efforts to finish the Harbinger with her slightly modified attendants continues!

It’s getting a little hard to see the differences at this point… basically I finished painting the Habinger aside from a few gems in her armour and weapon, and if I decide to do a really funky colour for her hair. Otherwise… she may be done! Maybe.

Paintectorate of Menoth

Over the holidays I had 3 different opportunities to play VASSAL games using the Protectorate of Menoth. I decided to use the Harbinger for all three games, and despite 2 losses, she’s still one of my favourite warcasters. Auto-hitting spells, a 20″ CTRL range (which is the 3rd largest in the game after my dear Nemo1 and Nemo3, but the largest native CTRL-range), and enough Focus to run 3 melee warjacks or a slew of ranged ones without breaking a sweat… plus the ability to make super-powered solos stay alive ad infinatum! What’s not to love!

So I decided it was time to get her on the table… which means assembling and painting her!

I’ve frequently said it, but it bears repeating: in my humble opinion, the Harbinger of Menoth is the most beautiful model I have ever seen, full stop. It’s so awesome that I was actually intimidated to start assembling it for fear of completely messing it up. Which I’m sure I have, but there ya go…

Despite the beauty and awesomeness of the model, I did want to try to make a few minor modifications: specifically, removing the flag from her back (the flag-pole being too flimsy and top-heavy for somebody as clumsy as I am), and replacing it with a shield. I decided to use one of her shoulder pads (which are a little over-sized) as a shield… it looks pretty good, actually, although I won’t mount it until after it’s painted. I then decided that I still wanted the flag, but I’d make one of the chain-bearers carrying it instead of a 3rd chain (which, honestly, is a little silly… the guy in the back has no purpose in moving the Harbinger, since you can’t push on a chain!). As a result this is now, by FAR, the most modified model in my collection.

I assembled, clipped, filed, sanded, and primed her a few days ago, and yesterday managed to get her and her entourage to start receiving paint… please excuse the humility of the pictures!
